What is Ethereum?

Ethereum: a bit of a strange name, isn't it? Well, it's actually one of the most popular blockchains of recent years.

More about Ethereum

Last weekend was particularly bloody, with falls of over 30% for some assets 🩸

Bitcoin and Ethereum are holding up well, with respective declines of "only" 5% and 7% over the last 7 days. On the other hand, it's much more complicated for the smallest capitalizations 📉

The reason? A regulatory battle! The SEC (the equivalent of the AMF in the USA) has taken legal action against Binance and Coinbase, the leading crypto-currency exchange platforms.

The American financial regulator accuses them of allowing their customers to buy and exchange crypto-currencies, which are considered to be securities. These are securities that require very specific rules.

The problem here lies not with the crypto players, but with a lack of clarity in the rules to be applied 🚫

Coinbase, which is a publicly traded company, had contacted the SEC has many about what it was allowed to do and not do. But the SEC has never been able to give a clear regulatory framework, leaving the crypto industry in absolute limbo 🤦🏻‍♂️

This battle will be one to watch closely in the months to come. The evolution of the crypto ecosystem depends on it! 😬

We answer your questions in public. Here's the best one we received:

Jérémy: "I'm told that Bitcoin is an energy disaster. Wouldn't it be nonsense to invest in it?"

It's true that Bitcoin has a carbon footprint. Nevertheless, its network is becoming greener and greener

For the first time in its history, Bitcoin has fallen below the 300 g/KWh emissions threshold 👏

It took Bitcoin just over 3 years to halve its emissions intensity. Quite a feat! It is the only industry to have managed to reduce its CO2 emissions at such a speed!!!

While some will continue to criticize Bitcoin, others will notice that it's becoming greener and greener 🍀

How so? Quite simply because miners are now sourcing the majority of their energy from renewable sources ⚡️

What does it mean? Quite simply, you buy an asset and don't touch it again for years. In reality, it's not that simple. The hardest part is not giving in to the temptation to sell your asset too soon, despite a substantial capital gain 🦾

And lately, this BUY AND HOLD strategy has once again proved its power. A dormant Ethereum portfolio woke up after 8 years to withdraw 8,000 ETH 😮

With blockchain, everything can be traced! So we know that the owner acquired these crypto at the Ethereum ICO in 2015, when 1 ETH was equal to $0.31

We're talking about a profit of nearly $15 million, for just $2,480 originally invested. Not a bad performance of 604,738% 😅

That's it for today! See you very soon 😁
